Dave Smith and I became good penpals more than a decade ago...when he agreed to put together a band and SING us onto the DANCEFLOOR for our FORTIETH REUNION: I worked part-time for MCI so long-distance was free for back-and-forth information and assistance! It pleased him GREATLY to share his time and talent for that event, and I will never forget his thoughtfulness and friendship.

Sadly, I also remember how ALONE Dave felt when he moved back to Springfield...the anticipation of old friendships renewed...his pride in their new home...the unspeakable loss of his LIFELONG pal, Marq Howell, and ineffective professional help for his illness - I will always wonder if I could have been a better friend. Peace, Dave.

It was a privilege to know David Smith....I wish I had gotten to know him years sooner. My memory of him at PHS...seeing him rushing through the halls ...every blonde hair in place...those blue eyes and his black leather jacket.......He laughed when I told him that.

He loved greatly his friends, would do anything within his power for you...His military career meant a great deal to him and he made a difference. His talent for detail, his artistic talents and his humanity made him special...his soldiers respected him; those who really knew him, loved him.

Rock on, my dearest Friend...God's peace be with you..
