What is it you hope to accomplish in the next five years?

I plan on visiting my granddaughter, Erica, in Japan.

What is your first instantaneous memory of Parkview?

I couldn't believe all of the windows. The classes always seemed so far away and my locker was out of the way too.
I remember how it seemed like we didn't have enough time to eat lunch. As a result, we had to eat fast. I also started to eat fast at home. My Mother didn't particularly like that.

Who was your favorite teacher and/or class and why?

I really liked Ms. Babb at Jarrett. She was a really good teacher. She made algebra easy for me. She was, however, rather old-fashioned. I remember how she was unhappy with some of the clothes the girls wore. To protest, one of our classmates came to class with a blouse on that had long sleeves and even covered her neck. I don't why we remember certain things, but that stuck with me. I still liked Ms. Babb.
Many years later I took a college level algebra course. Math isn't the same today, and I didn't enjoy it as much as I did then.

What was your most embarrassing moment at Parkview?

I was walking from the back parking lot with Jack Smith and slipped on the ice/snow and fell. Jack kept on talking as if I was still walking along. I don't know if anyone saw me, but it was embarrassing anyway.

What was your favorite song and who sang it?

I loved Chances Are by Johnny Mathis.

Describe your car and favorite destination:

I didn't have a car at my disposal. But I loved to go to Taylor's Drive In! Fishers was second.

How have you changed since Parkview?

I guess we all have changed. Some more than others. Hair color may be different. I'm alot more outgoing. I didn't really like to volunteer answers in class. That wouldn't be an issue now!
Moving away from Springfield has exposed me to so much and has made me a better person.

What careers have you pursued?

I always wanted to be a nurse. I entered the nursing program at Burge Hospital and attended Drury. Back then you couldn't be married, so I dropped out. After I got married and had my 5 children, I went back to school at Indiana University. I practiced nursing for many years as a staff nurse, open-heart surgery team leader, head nurse and many other positions. I ended up with a Masters Degree. I then changed careers and now am in financial services. Helping people in a different way.

What has been your most exciting or interesting experience?

Going to Aspen Colorado. It's beautiful there. I wondered why we were told to drink alot of water. I found out that it helps with the altitude. The oxygen level is thin. I went snowmobiling and we rested close to the Maroon Bells (a mountain peak area). The story goes that John Denver's ashes were spread in that area. I also have enjoyed going to Hilton Head, New York, Boston and Atlanta.

What do you do these days to have fun?

I like to go to the beach on the Southern tip of Lake Michigan. I live only a few miles from the lake. The sand dunes and many the many nature trails are beautiful. I also like to go to Chicago, which is only about 50 miles away. It is a beautiful city with lots of things to see and do.
I also love to come back to Springfield to visit with my Dad and family there.

What is it you still hope to do/accomplish?

My oldest grandaughter, Erica, is leaving July 25th to teach in Japan. She graduated from Purdue this past May. I want to go visit her while she is there. I also want to travel more, maybe to Australia and the UK and Europe someday.

Comments:

I lived briefly in Oklahoma City, then two years in Kansas City, MO. We moved to Chicago in 1962 and after five years moved to Gary, IN. I have lived in my present home in Valparaiso, IN since 1974.

School Story:

We lived on Portland, just East of Campbell when I was to start at NEW Parkview. I was excited that I could walk and then my parents bought a house in Brentwood Estates. It took a long time to adjust to living way out. Look at where that is now! I lucked out though because Jack Smith lived a block away and we rode in together. I'm sorry we lost him recently.

I always enjoyed spending time with Tommy at our reunions.  What a character!  He could lighten up the room with his quiet humor.  Glad I got to see him at the last reunion at Ron Wards.  So sad to lose him!  He will be missed!!
